Manchester’s Hacienda nightclub will forever go down in history as the epicentre of hedonistic youth culture in the 80s and 90s. In November 2000, many of the key elements from the iconic venue ended up as 69 lots at a charity auction before it was demolished- resulting in various parts of the club being scattered all around the world.
The 90 minute film “Do you own the dancefloor?” tracks down what happened to the parts of the club, as well as talking to the people who were so attached to the club that they came to Manchester to bid for bricks, exit signs, pieces of the hallowed dancefloor and even urinals!
The film aims to tell the story of how the Hacienda lives on, not only through music and memories but in the pieces sitting in peoples homes, offices and gardens. Featuring interviews from Hacienda DJ’s Graeme Park and Mike Pickering and Liam Gallagher and Peter Hook.
Do You Own The Dancefloor is being screened in Manchester this Saturday at the Royal Northern College, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research and Kidneys for Life.
