Behind The Scenes: Handpainted Print & Pattern

8 Feb 2018

Our in house design team create unique hand drawn prints for every collection each season.

For SS18 Black Label we’ve produced several floral prints and a reworked version of our unique signature paisley.

To show you how this works, we’ve gone behind the scenes and followed the step by step process that takes place when creating our original prints.

The Floral Print

Step 1: Sketch

An initial outline is sketched in pencil, this is an intricate line drawing and includes shading to add texture and depth.

Step 2: Paint

The colour is added to the print by carefully handpainting over the pencil sketch. This brings the design to life.

Step 3: Digital Image

The painted sketch is scanned into a computer where we digitise the file. Our design team then create a repeat print from the original file.

Step 4: Product

Finally the print is digitally applied to the fabric and the garment is constructed into the finished piece you see today.

The Paisley Print

Step 1: Sketch

An intricate sketch is developed which outlines the unique paisley pattern. The words “Pretty Green” are incorporated alongside other traditional paisley shapes.

Step 2: Digital

The sketch is scanned into a computer where we digitise the file. Our design team then create a repeat print from the original file.

Step 3: Cad

The pattern is applied to a cad outline of the garment and is positioned to sit correctly on the body.

Step 4: Product

The print is applied to the fabric and the garment is constructed into the finished piece you see today.

Our original hand drawn prints are unique to Pretty Green and new prints are created each season.
