Record Store Day: Independent Record Stores To Visit

17 Apr 2018

Record Store Day is a massive, loud and proud celebration of the unique culture surrounding independently owned record stores. On the 21st April over 200 record shops across the UK will be selling exclusive releases, putting on live artist performances, hosting free giveaways and much, much more. With that in mind, here’s a quick rundown of a few top events worth checking out.

Rough Trade East, London

One of the most recognisable record shops in the UK. To celebrate this year’s Record Store Day, Rough Trade East will have over 500 exclusive, in store only releases and DJ sets from the likes of Tim Burgess, Dave Haslam and James Lavelle, among many others. Doors open at 8am.

81 Renshaw, Liverpool

81 Renshaw is a great little spot. Aside from its record store you’ll also find a bar and a live music venue. Speaking of which, they have an ace lineup sorted for the 21st in the form of Lo-Five, Kieran Mahon, Seafoam Green and Thom Moorcroft. They’ll also have a few special offers for their first 40 customers, so get there early.

Diverse Music, Newport

Bit of a different one this. Diverse Music are organising a free, multi-venue celebration across Newport city centre. Acts will be coming from as far and wide as the US, Nottingham, Bristol and, even Newport itself. Artists will start taking to the various stages after 4.30pm, so drop into the shop beforehand for details.

Armagh Music, Armagh

If you’re in Northern Ireland on Record Store Day then head to Armagh Music. Open from 9am, they’re putting on free tea and coffee for the first 100 customers and loads of giveaways including tote bags, badges, CDs and cushions! Live music will also be supplied by Plague Artists and a vinyl set from DJ Chill.

Badlands Records, Cheltenham
